The Sprint at Nationals came the day after my Olympic race, one in which I did very well. Happy with that result, I had nothing to lose in the Sprint event. Yet, I did even better with a podium finish! 3rd overall in 20-24 age group. I was surprised a time over 1 hour would be on the podium but it was hot out and the transition areas were huge.
My swim was fastest of the day, at 9:32 (1:11/100m pace). No one else was under 10:00.
On the bike, I split a 29:56, one of only 5 riders under 30 minutes.
The run was good for 11th rank, at 17:48 (5:45 pace).
The winner, Mike Meehan got me by 2 minutes, and the runner up, Dustin Wiegl, had me by 1 minute. They had great runs under 16:30 (5:20 pace).
This wrapped up a great summer of improvement.
